Food & Wine Trail
Food fantastic

Try town and country fare

Margaret RiverIt’s true that man does not live by bread alone. There’s also wine, steak, lamb chops, seafood, salads, vegetables, fruit, cheese, chocolate and all the many, many other culinary delights waiting for you in beautiful, bountiful and verdant Margaret River.

With today’s emphasis on wine and wineries, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that Margaret River has long been about farming and harvests. But even a short time spent exploring the winding country roads of the rural region will still show you pastures, cows and sheep.

This history of farming, enhanced by the region’s Mediterranean climate and proximity to the sea, has resulted in an enduring tradition of producing a wide selection of outstanding foods, including:

  • Organically grown fruits, juices and vegetables
  • Traditional jams, jellies, preserves and condiments
  • Olive groves with pure olive oil and flavoured oil
  • Exquisite gourmet cheeses and cheese products
  • Hand-made chocolates, fudge and other irresistible candies
  • Prime venison and beef
  • An appetising array of seafood, including Australian marron (freshwater crayfish) as well as the perennial plate of fish and chips

When visiting Margaret River you are spoilt for choice (see Reserve a Table). So take an excursion along the Margaret River Food Trail where you can visit olive groves and other food producers with a public showroom/shop (that’s “farm gate” in Australian-speak). Here you are welcome to sample olive oils, cheeses, chocolates and fudge, among other goodies.

Margaret RiverVisit a boutique brewery or one of the many ever-more-sophisticated in-town bistros and cafés or vineyard restaurants. Sit back and relax as local kitchen wizards and a growing number of visiting award-winning and renowned chefs from around the world prepare you a gastronomic delight.

And don’t forget to travel the Margaret River Food & Wine Trail to sample a medley of gourmet delights. Click here for more. Margaret River has something for every taste, making the region a gourmet food lovers’ paradise.
